Those who proclaim God’s word in the liturgy are known as Ministers of the Word, Readers or Lectors. The Lector proclaims God’s word to the assembled faith community.
The Liturgy of the Word, as a principal element of the Mass, contains text from Sacred Scripture, revealing God speaking to His people. Lectors proclaim the readings, with the exception of the Gospel. They may also announce the general intercessions when a deacon is not present.
The Lector Ministry calls for a person to grow in knowledge of Scripture, the living Word of God.
